Zillow a site We love, has begun to develop an open API to share data on 67 Million Homes.
Zillow I think has one of the coolest interfaces for viewing home values, and with an open API web designers and online real estate marketers  have the ability to incorporate the data and cool graphics into their blog or website making for a cool experience for both buyers and sellers researching online. (78% of consumers start their search online)

Many real estate blogs have talked about Zillow however most of the real estate agents we speak with really don’t seem to think much of Zillow despite the press it gets.
So when I saw this article about the FTC complaint against Zillow I wasn’t really surprised. Real Estate Marketing can be as simple or complex as you make it, but it all starts with good a content delivery system. The Best Content Delivery system right now is a Real Estate Blog.

Zillow started last February and quickly skyrocketed to popularity with its instant valuaions of homes and easy of use.

DK had an excellent post earlier after a discovery by another member of our team KB, who found that while searching for real estate in cary north carolina, some of his searches returned results full of directories, yellow pages and other irrelevant results. Definitely not what the searcher is looking for:

I believe that this is an indication of the future, more and more people are turning to blogs to find the information that they are seaching for. In real estate, real estate agents have a unique opportunity to brand themselves by providing the information and links to the information that their potential cusomters are looking for. Make sure they are finding your blog.

I hear realtors sometimes say to me that they know absolutely nothing about a blog. I don’t think that my clients would use blogs….Does your competition have the same point of view? Not if they’re a top producer, or the ones that are soon going to be.
Think about this:

  • How many homebuyers out there could use your services? How many sellers need your help selling and listing their property for them?

I just saw a press release where a company was touting an “online forum to facilitate article exchanges among owners of real estate websites.” This sounds like a very bad idea.

Search Engines generally do not like duplicate content and “exchanging articles” sounds like something you should avoid. Generating new unique content is definately a good thing. However, copying or “exchanging an article” with another realtor would not be something we would reccomend.

There are many sources for ideas for articles and it is not a bad idea to quote some, and paraphrase some, but always give credit to the original writer or source, but never copy content unless quoting.

According to a Press Release monday that reported that reported a survey of corporate bloggers and asked them if they are accomplishing their goals with their blogs, blogs and blog marketing is very succesful.

positive affect; ”
This was a survey across many different types of businesses with diverse goals, and the overall success was very high. Many of these business probably had goals that are much more complex than the average real estate agent, the goal of any good real estate blog marketing campaign is to generate buyer and seller leads. The success rate among Real Estate Agents with a professional blogmarketing campaign will be significantly higher.
